How is a Canadian resume different from the CV I used at home?
A Canadian resume is reverse-chronological, two pages at most, and carries no photo, date of birth, age, gender, marital status, religion or nationality. Those details are protected grounds under Canadian human-rights law, so most employers screen out resumes that include them. Canadian resumes also lead with measurable achievements rather than lists of duties.
Should I remove my photo from my resume in Canada?
Yes. Canadian employers routinely discard resumes with photos to avoid appearance-based bias claims. The same applies to a signature, date of birth and personal-details block that resumes from India, Nigeria, the Philippines, Germany and the Middle East commonly include.
Do I need to list my visa or permanent residency status?
No. Keep immigration status off the resume. Employers ask about eligibility to work in Canada in the application questions, and that is the right place to answer it.
How do I show a foreign degree on a Canadian resume?
Keep the original credential name and institution, then add one line with the Canadian equivalent — for example "WES: equivalent to a Canadian bachelor's degree". Recruiters cannot rank an unfamiliar qualification without it.
